HH the Emir Addresses Press Conference on Libya

Paris, September 01 (QNA) - HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani stressed on the importance of NATO's involvement in the liberation of Libya, noting that the role of Arab League may have been inadequate to resolve the crisis within the existing potential in Arab countries and without the help of NATO. That is why it was legitimate request to ask for NATO help to help the people of Libya who wants to be free and live in their homeland with dignity, His Highness said.
HH the Emir explained, in a joint press conference he addressed Wednesday evening at the Elysee Palace along with French President, UK Prime Minister, Chairman of the Libyan Transitional National Council and the UN Secretary General, it is not a conflict between East and West, but it is the subject of reciprocal invasions are the one that caused the conflict between East and West. He cited that when the United States helped Bosnia all world countries including Arab and Islamic states welcomed that. The same is happening with the Libyan people, His Highness said, adding that the sates that helped Libyans did not come to invade the country.
HH the Emir expressed hope that peace would prevail in Libya and that the Libyan people would find solutions to their problems. The Libyans have to decide for themselves how to achieve what they want and it is now up to them to do so, HH the Emir said.
Replaying to a question, HH the Emir said "the next phase in Libya is an important one not only to Libya, it is even important to demonstrate to the world and the Arab peoples how this revolution that called for democracy was able to exercise democracy in all wisdom.
His Highness said the role of the rebels and their leaders should not be underestimated. Without them we will not see quick victory, he added.
HH the Emir said that the Libyan people should work on maintaining security in Libya and that the field commanders who cleaned up the cities and defeated the troops of mercenaries should take over security in Libya because the security aspect will not be as easy as one may think as Libya had no civilian police in the past, pointing to the belief that the Libyans need international expertise to train civilian police.
His Highness said that the security aspect must be consistent with that of development such as building schools, ports and industries, adding that Libyans should speed up their efforts to export oil and should not focus on the frozen funds.
In response to another question, His Highness the Emir said he has plan to visit Libya when things are settled there.
