Thai government to first raise wages in seven provinces

BANGKOK, September 1 (TNA) - Thai Labour Minister Phadermchai Sasomsab said on Thursday that the new Pheu Thai Party-led government plans to raise daily minimum wages to 300 baht in seven provinces first, including Bangkok.

Phadermchai revealed that other six provinces where the daily minimum wages will be raised to the 300-baht benchmark include Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom, Nontaburi and Phuket.

The new Thai labour minister assessed that over three million workers will first benefit from the minimum wage hike, which is likely to take effect early next year.

Meanwhile, Thai Permanent Secretary for Labour Dr. Somkiart Chayasriwong said that the daily minimum wages in other provinces may be raised by 40 per cent first and to the 300-baht benchmark later. (TNA)
