OFFICIAL TALKS MADE BETWEEN PRESIDENTS
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ Official talks were held on Wednesday, August 31 between the Presidents of Mongolia and the Republic of Finland, in the Government House.
Expressing gratitude to the President of Finland for visiting Mongolia, the State Head Ts.Elbegdorj said this visit become a new chapter not only in history of the Mongolia-Finland relations, but also in the ties between Mongolia and the northern European countries. He underlined this is the very first state visit to be paid by the President of a Scandinavian country, and believed Finland would be a leading partner of Mongolia in the northern Europe.
Ts.Elbegdorj expressed a willingness of Mongolia to develop cooperation with Finland and to study experiences of Finland in ensuring the democracy, economic growth and social stability, and then pointed out that widening the relations and cooperation with northern European countries including Finland is one of the priorities of Mongolian foreign policy. “Mongolia considers Finland as its one of Third Neighbors and partners,” he added.
The President Ts.Elbegdorj mentioned that the 11th intergovernmental meeting on economic, scientific and technical cooperation was successfully held last spring in Helsinki, and pointed out the two countries have been cooperating in the defense sector. He expressed a willingness to establish collaboration between the central bodies of state administrations, especially between the Ministries of Internal Affairs and to realize joint projects and programs, in a scope of the goals of Mongolia for making a legal reform and developing corruption-free governance. He added Mongolia wants to take a soft-loan from Finland for creating mining infrastructure and cooperate in it and to develop partnership in the fields of science, education, technology of manufacturing industries, forestry and agriculture.
Mrs. Tarja Halonen expressed a hope her visit would significantly contribute to expanding the bilateral relations and cooperation. Mentioning the countries made a start of developing the cooperation, Mrs. Halonen underlined Finland will continue talks with Mongolia on economics, environment, defense, exploitation of mineral resources and investments for infrastructure. She also noted Mongolia has been contributing to the international peacekeeping operations.
Present at the official talks which run in friendly and businesslike atmosphere were G.Zandanshatar, the Mongolian Minister of Foreign Affairs; T.Gandi, the Minister of Social Welfare and Labor; B.Enkhmandakh, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to the Republic of Finland; D.Battulga, head of the Presidential Office; Ts.Enkhtuvshin, the Secretary of the National Security Council; Kh.Zoljargal, the Vice Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry; Ch.Jargalsaikhan, the Vice Minister of Environment and Tourism; Alexander Stubb, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland; Lars Backstrom, the Finnish Ambassador to Mongolia; Pekka Hallberg, the president of the Supreme Administrative Court of Finland; Paivi Kairamo-Hella, the secretary-general of the Presidential Office of Finland; Pertti Torstila, the State Secretary of the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and other officials.
