Tourism, hotel businesses to prosper in Thailand’s Hat Yai District

SONGKHLA, August 31 (TNA) - Hoteliers in southern Thailand’s Songkhla Province can expect the expansion of tourism in the region as some 3,000 hotel rooms will be built in the next two years through massive infrastructure development.

In Hat Yai District, a major business and transport hub of southern Thailand, the owner of Sakura Grand View Hotel Somchart Pimthanapoonporn said he has invested at least 500 million baht for a new hotel with 400 rooms, to benefit from the expansion.

Somchart said tourists from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and other regions of Thailand has been his main customer base.

However, he noted many hotels have been losing out on extra revenue due to their inability to cater for the growing number of visitors during weekends and festivals, due to the insufficient number of rooms.

Meanwhile, five other hotel owners in Hat Yai District said they already plan to build up to 3,000 new rooms to expand their hotel businesses by 2013. (TNA)
