Thai health ministry issues warning for hand, foot and mouth disease

BANGKOK, August 30 (TNA) - Deputy Minister for Public Health Torpong Chaiyasarn says health officials are closely monitoring the flood situation for the emergence of hand, foot and mouth disease outbreaks, urging people to eat heated food and consider hygienic practices.

Torpong confirmed the disease has now spread under present weather conditions, killing already four children across Thailand.

However, he assured his ministry has already put in place control measures to curb the disease spread, and urged parents to keep their sick children away from school.

According to the Public Health Ministry, the hand, foot and mouth disease can be transmitted by food and phlegm, and has occurred every year among children aged below five years old. Common symptoms of the disease include high body temperatures, blisters, sores, and rashes on hands and feet. (TNA)
