Thailand's export price index keeps rising

BANGKOK, August 30 (TNA) - Thailand's export price index has kept rising, by some 21.65 per cent year-on-year during the first seven months of this year and by up to 45.77 per cent year-on-year in July alone.

Thawatchai Jitraphasanan, a lecturer at Bangkok-based Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Economics, reported Tuesday that the export price index of Thai paper and printed materials and jewelry, including gold ornaments, had particularly surged by 379 and 303 per cent respectively during the January-July 2011 period.

Thawatchai acknowledged that Thailand's export values hit a historic high last month at a 38.89 per cent year-on-year growth and at a 25.58 year-on-year expansion during the first seven months of this year.

Meanwhile, Wallop Witanakorn, Vice President of the Thai National Shippers' Council, warned, however, that signs of the country's slowdown in exports in the last two quarters of this years, in line with the economic downturn in the United States and Europe, have been witnessed, particularly exports of Thai textile and garment products.
