India Runs Trials of New Tank

New Delhi, August 29 (QNA) - Limited technical trials of Mark-II version of Arjun Tank (Main Battle Tank) have been carried out by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in the desert of Rajasthan, the Press Information Bureau of the Government of India said Monday.
India's Defence Minister A K Antony on Monday gave an update on the progress of upgrading Arjun Tank (Mark I to II) in a written reply to the Lower House of the Parliament.
Like the Indian Air Force, the Indian army is placing orders to expand by improving the capability of the new tank estimated to cost US $ 8.1 Million approximately.
The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has cleared the proposal for placement of indent for 124 MBT Arjun Mark II on Heavy Vehicles Factory in Avadi, Chennai in southern India.
Placement of indent by the army on Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) is being further processed and the first batch of the Arjun Mark II tank will be produced by 2015, the minister said. (QNA)
