Thai defense minister to visit Cambodia for informal talks

BANGKOK, August 30 (TNA) - Defense Ministry Spokesman Colonel Thanathip Sawangsaeng confirms Defense Minister General Yutthasak Sasiprapa will visit Cambodia in late September for informal talks on the provisional demilitarized zone defined by the World Court.

According to Colonel Thanathip, the Thai defense minister will discuss with his Cambodian counterpart General Tea Banh about the redeployment of Thai and Cambodian forces, as well as privileges of third-party observers who will enter the disputed grounds near the Preah Vihear temple.

Colonel Thanathip said the Thai defense minister’s visit will also pave way for the next Thai-Cambodian General Border Committee meeting (GBC) meeting, expected to be held in Phnom Penh next month.

Meanwhile, Colonel Thanathip said in two weeks time, the Thai defense minister will formally invite Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to join a National Security Council session, at which Thai-Cambodian border issues and Thailand’s agenda for the next GBC meeting will be discussed. (TNA)
