Thai DPM Chalerm to handle police chief reshuffle

BANGKOK, August 30 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra says she has assigned Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung to take charge of reshuffling the police chief post.
Speaking to reporters after Tuesday’s cabinet meeting, Yingluck said she will only oversee the policies of the Royal Thai Police. She assured Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm will be the one to work on transferring the incumbent police chief, Police General Wichean Potephosree.
Separately, Deputy Premier Chalerm said the new police chief must be an honest person, be able to command his subordinates, and must have a high-profile in crime suppression.
In addition, Chalerm commented that Police General Wichean should be responsible for investigating the revelation of illegal casinos in Bangkok recently.
Meanwhile, Supreme Commander General Songkitti Jagabatara said that he does not think Police General Wichean will be removed from his seat, as he is a capable and hard-working person.
He said it is not necessarily true that a change in government will lead to the reshuffling of government officials. (TNA)
