Thai PM orders quick compensation for flood-affected farmers

BANGKOK, August 29 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has ordered quick compensation for flood-affected farmers across the country.

Prime Minister Yingluck announced the decision Monday after her flood inspection trip in the northeastern province of Udon Thani. She promised that quick compensation will be given to flood-affected farmers before floodwaters receded, although it still remained to be confirmed if the flood compensation rate will stay at 5,000 baht per family.

Yingluck also said she does not want to see flood victims waiting 4-5 months for their compensation as in previous administrations.

The premier added that she has been monitoring the flood situation in the south closely, and for the time being she has assigned deputy prime minister and Interior Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit to visit flooded areas in the region to inspect the flood situation. (TNA)
