Karen villagers may rally at Government House to demand protection

BANGKOK, August 29 (TNA) - The Karen Network for Culture and Environment (KNCE) is asking the Thai government to look into a human rights violation case involving a Kaeng Krachan National Park ranger and the Karen people.

Head of the KNCE Prasert Trakarnsupakorn filed the complaint at the Chiang Mai provincial seat on Monday, demanding an investigation into the alleged case in which Chaiwat Limlikhit-aksorn, chief of the Kaeng Krachan National Park, ordered the demolition of Karen houses and properties for reasons of national security, forest encroachment and drug-trafficking.

Prasert said the order, causing the displacement of over 200 Karens, constituted to an act of human rights violation. He demanded the government to clarify the case within seven days and provide compensation to the affected people.

The head of the KNCE vowed its members will stage a rally at Government House if the complaint was unheard. (TNA)
