Thai PM visits flooded-ridden northeast

BANGKOK, August 29 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is visiting Thailand’s northeast on her second day trip to flood-ridden provinces.
On Monday, Prime Minister Yingluck inspected the Huay Mak Khaeng River in Udon Thai Province, where a floodgate has been constructed to help speed up drainage from the city.
In other updated reports, train services resumed since 04:30 a.m. in northern Lamphun province after workers successfully switched a railway track away from the Don Khun Tan section, which was previously hit by rain-triggered mudslides over the weekend. They expected to completely repair the track by next week.
In Pichit Province, the Nan River has overflowed its banks in Bang Mulnak District, flooding nearly 160,000 square metres of orchards.
In southern Thailand, schools in Muang Takua Pa municipality of Phang Nga province will be closed for two more days following the death of two students who drowned. Also, the evacuation of people in high-risk areas continued as floodwaters rise due to extended rainfalls. (TNA)
