Qatar Cool Wins Major Award For Third Consecutive Year
Doha, August 28 (QNA) - Qatar District Cooling Company has won a major industry award in Canada for the third consecutive year.
Senior management of the company received the award at the 102nd International District Energy Association (IDEA) conference held in association with the Canadian District Energy Association.
The award recognises the company's performance in district energy. It was one of the leading providers to supply the maximum number of buildings excluding North America in 2010, the company said today in a statement.
The company continues to expand with 42 new buildings added last year to its operational and contracted clients, serving 6,489,357 square feet.
Qatar Cool CEO Fayad Al Khatib and Business Development Manager Mohannad Khader received the award in Toronto at the 102nd IDEA Annual Conference.
Al Khatib said, "This award reflects Qatar Cool's commitment to excellence and reinforces our position as an industry leader in district cooling.
"Earning recognition from IDEA is a positive message of our continuous drive for meeting and exceeding our customer's and stakeholder's expectations."
Qatar Cool showcased its achievements at the conference. Al Khatib gave a comprehensive presentation titled 'Local Drivers - District Energy: Essential Infrastructure for Energy Efficient Communities' at a plenary session of the IDEA conference.
Al Khatib highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships and the strong need for planning and engaging with all stakeholders early on in such large scale projects.
He elaborated on Qatar Cool's progress made in its six-year history; its support to Qatar's 2030 National Vision through its Environmental Development Programme while endeavouring to balance sustainable economic growth, social development and protecting the environment as well.
District cooling schemes would contribute significantly to reduce the country's carbon footprint, through considerable energy savings which result in lower carbon dioxide and other gas emissions as well as the usage of ozone-friendly refrigerants, he told the conference.
Qatar Cool supplies Doha s West Bay area through two district cooling plants producing a total of 67,000 refrigerating tons of cooling. The company also owns and operates the world s largest integrated district cooling plant on the Pearl-Qatar Island.
The IDEA is a non-profit industry association founded in the United States in 1909 with over 1300 members worldwide and meets on a yearly basis.
