Transport Ministry to cut bus fares next month

BANGKOK, August 29 (TNA) - Bus fares in Bangkok, including those of Transport Co., will be reduced next month, leading the way for other public fare concessions.

Transport Minister Air Chief Marshal Sukumpol Suwanatat announced the decision on Monday, saying that the fare reduction, starting from September 1, will send fares on BMTA’s “hot-buses” down by 50 satang, and air-conditioned buses down 1 baht.

The transport minister reassured that fares offered by Transport Co. will also drop by 2 satang per kilometer despite strong oppositions from bus operators affiliated with the company. He said his ministry will negotiate with them on the matter.

The Marine Department meanwhile, said fares on Bangkok express boats will drop 1 baht on every section, while normal ferries down 50 satang, also effective from September 1. (TNA)
