PM to support Royal Thai Armed Forces

BANGKOK, August 29 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra affirmed Monday that she will oversee the Ministry of Defence herself.
The first female Thai premier told reporters that her supervision of the Ministry of Defence is aimed to support the work of the Royal Thai Armed Forces and she did not assigned General Chaisit Shinawatra, a former Thai armed forces chief who is her uncle, to oversee the Thai military.
The Pheu Thai premier also denied reports that Khunying Pojaman Na Pombejra, ex-wife of exiled ex-Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra who is her sister-in-law, has pushed for the transfer of incumbent National Police Chief Police Generl Wichien Potposri to replace him with Deputy National Police Chief Police General Priewpan Damapong, Pojaman's elder brother. Yingluck insisted that Khunying Pojaman has not intervened with politics.
The Royal Thai Police under Police General Wichien's leadership has been criticized for failing to prevent and crack down narcotics and illegal casinos in several areas in the country, including Bangkok. (TNA)
