Oil price cut in Thailand woos Myanmar motorists
CHAING RAI, August 28 (TNA) - A number of Myanmar motorists have poured to patrol stations in Thailand to refuel their vehicles following the Government’s recent reduction of oil prices.
Petrol stations in Chiang Rai Province, especially those in Mae Sai District that borders Myanmar, were packed with motorists Sunday; the second day after the government’s oil-price-cut measure took effect -- which results in a substantial reduction of petrol and diesel prices by 3-8 baht per liter.
A number of Myanmar drivers were also seen crossing the border to buy cheap patrols in the district.
The retail price of diesel in Thailand now stays at 27.84 baht per liter and 35 baht per liter in Myanmar while 91-octane petrol is sold at 35.62 baht per liter in Thailand and at 40 baht per liter in Myanmar.
The Pheu-Thai Party-led government approves to cut the oil prices by suspending contributions to the State Oil Fund. The short-term measure, which aims to help people reduce their financial burden, took effect at 6 a.m. Saturday. (TNA)
