Anna Hazare to end fast tomorrow

New Delhi, Aug 27 (PTI) Activist Anna Hazare will break
his fast on Sunday at 10 am, capping 12 days of hunger strike
soon after Indian Parliament adopted a 'Sense of the House' on
three demands of the activist to be forwarded to the Standing
Committee.
The announcement came at 9 pm (IST) after Union Minister
Vilasrao Deshmukh and East Delhi MP Sandeep Dikshit drove to
Ramlila Maidan and handed over a letter from Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh to Hazare conveying the 'Sense of the House'.
"With your permission, I wish to break my fast tomorrow
at 10 am," Hazare told his supporters who received the news
with loud applause and cheers.
"This victory of Jan Lokpal bill is a partial victory. A
full victory is yet to be achieved," the 74-year-old activist
said while noting that Parliamentarians have respected his
three demands. "I congratulate them and express my gratitude
to all MPs," he said.
The announcement came on a day which witnessed hectic
parleys and fresh trouble between Team Anna and government
even as both Houses undertook a day-long debate to end the
impasse over the Lokpal bill.

Terming the development as "triumph of democracy", Hazare
dedicated the victory to the women, child and youth of the
country.
"This is a victory for all of you. Twelve days, the whole
country stood up for this fight. I also thank civil society
and the media for their support in this fight," he said.
He also appealed to those who were also on fast to call
off their hunger strike immediately and join him on Sunday for
the celebrations.
He said people should "celebrate this victory" in a
peaceful manner.
Earlier, Deshmukh read out the Prime Minister's letter in
which Singh appealed to Hazare to call off his fast.
In his letter, Singh said Parliament has passed a
resolution accepting his three demands -- citizens' charter,
inclusion of lower bureaucracy and setting up of Lokayuktas in
states -- and that it would be sent to the parliamentary
Standing Committee for consideration.
Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal appealed to the people
to gather in Ramlila Maidan on Sunday to celebrate the
victory.
