VISITORS TO AKKARENA BEACH MAKASSAR DECLINING

Makassar, S Sulawesi, Sept 19 (ANTARA) - Entering the third week of the fasting month the number of visitors to the Akkarena beach in South Sulawesi has dropped Friday.

The beach which is located in Tamalate subdistrict covering 10 hectares is only three kilometres away from Makassar and a good place for recreation.

Akkarena offers many kinds of facilities to relax, play games and sports in addition to a beautiful beach to watch a sunset.

A 450 square meters restaurant was built in June 1998 with a Mediterranian service of local and international food and beverages with outdoor live music.

"The beach is visited by an average of 400 people and on Sundays and holidays it could reach 600-700 guests. Before the Ramadhan the visitors on regular days can reach 700 per day," Oni, one of the employees said.

Oni said the visitors usually come toward the evening while the not yet many guests have come.

The entrance ticket costs Rp7,000 for adults and Rp7,000 for two children under ten. The beach area is open from 7 am to 10 pm on Mondays to Fridays and 6 am to 10 pm on holidays.

"The number of visitors usually rises after the post-Lebaran holidays," he said.

Meanwhile, a visitor from Mamasa, West Sulawesi, Borrong preferred to come in the morning. "I come early because the waves are not big or rough, and the sea is calm and warm," he said.
