Agriculture Ministry adopts Thai King's philosophy for development plan

BANGKOK, August 25 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has adopted His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej's sufficiency economy philosophy for its new five-year development plan.

The Office of Agricultural Economics on Thursday organised a workshop to finally review and revise the ministry's 11th agricultural development plan, during which Permanent Secretary for Agriculture and Cooperatives Chalermporn Pirunsarn said that the new five-year plan, to be implemented from October 1, 2011-September 30, 2016, is in accordance with the country's 11th National Economic and Social Development Plan to be implemented during the same period.

Chalermporn acknowledged that the five-year people-oriented plan focuses on further developing local farmers, through the adoption of the beloved Thai monarch's advised sufficiency economy, to achieve its three-point goals of upgrading local farmers' quality of life, raising Thailand's competitiveness in the production and management of agricultural products and food security and ensuring the country's balanced, efficient and sustainable farm resources development.
