US embassy’s clarification regarding Peshawar incident
ISLAMABAD, August 22, 2011 (PPI): Many Pakistani news outlets have reported that U. S. officials “escaped” from a Peshawar motorway check point and took refuge in the U.S. Consulate in Peshawar. Further, reports allege that the U.S. officials tried to crush the police officials in their way. This is entirely false.
According to a statement issued here Monday by US Embassy, that the U.S. officials were travelling from Islamabad to Peshawar for official business and had in their possession an approved No Objection Certificate (NOC), from Pakistan General Headquarters for the trip.
They were not stopped at the checkpoint but were waved on. There was no altercation between U.S. and Pakistani police officials. All Employees of the U.S. Mission to Pakistan follow the laws of Pakistan.
