PREMIER MEETS JACQUES ROGGE
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ The president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Mr. Jacques Rogge was received on Tuesday, August 23 by the Prime Minister S.Batbold, in the Government House.
The Premier underlined that the visit of the IOC president has been coincided with the biggest anniversaries of Mongolia, and it became special one because this visit was paid before the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games. S.Batbold expressed thanks to the IOC for rendering assistance and support to Mongolia.
"Our athletes competed for the first time in Olympic Games in 1964, and they have won 19 medals. The very first Olympic gold medal was won by Mongolian athlete at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Now, Mongolians are aiming to compete in nine sport events at the London Olympics, and four athletes have been qualified for the Olympics," the Premier stressed, and hoped Mongolians will won medals repeating their brilliant successes shown at the Beijing Olympics.
In response, the IOC president thanked the Prime Minister for an audience, and then reported that 4,700 medals of the London Olympic and Paralympic Games will be made with metals which are extracted from Mongolia. Mr. Rogge said he is confident that Mongolian athletes will win all colors of medals at the Summer Olympics.
