No Thai fatalities or injuries in U.S. earthquake

BANGKOK, August 24 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs insisted on Wednesday that there have been no reports on fatalities or injuries among Thai people from a 5.8-magnitude earthquake which rocked the U.S. southern Virginia State Tuesday afternoon (local time), or in the early hour of Wednesday (Thailand's time).

The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported it has been informed by the Thai Embassy in Washington that updates of the U.S. quake have been closely monitored and contacts with the Thai community in Mineral, the quake-hit area in the coastal Virginia State, have been ensured.

The Thai Embassy in Washington has, therefore, confirmed that there have been no casualties among Thai nationals in the U.S. quake-stricken area--although properties of the Thai people and community have been partly damaged.

The Thai Embassy in Washington has, however, issued an official statement on its website and the Twitter and Facebook social networks, calling on any Thai national affected by the U.S. tremor to contact the embassy around the clock for immediate assistance at the phone No. 202 298 4797 and 202 298 4812 during its office hours or at 202 309 0610 outside its office hours.
