Thaksin's ex-wife acquitted by Appeal Court

BANGKOK, August 24 (TNA) - Bangkok's Appeal Court ruled Wednesday morning to acquit Khunying Pojaman Na Pombejra, ex-wife of exiled ex-Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, on a case involving a business of the Shinawatra family, citing incomplete evidence.
The Appeal Court said in its verdict that Khunying Pojaman was not found guilty of evading a tax payment of 546 million baht for the transfer of 4.5 million shares of the Shinawatra Computer and Communications Group, worth 738 million baht, as accused. Therefore, she was acquitted from a three-year-imprisonment earlier ruled by the Lower Court.
In 2008, Bangkok's Criminal Court sentenced Pojaman and her adopted brother, Bhanapot Damapongse, to a three-year jail term each, two years for charges related to their conspiracy to evade the tax and another one year for giving falsified statements to authorities; while Pojaman's secretary Kanjanapa Honghern, was also sentenced to a two-year imprisonment.
Under the Appeal Court's verdict this morning, Bannapot's imprisonment was reduced to a two-year suspended jail term; while Kanchanapa was also acquitted. (TNA)
