Qatar's Charities to Launch Donation Campaign for Horn of Africa
Doha, August 23 (QNA) - Qatar-based charity socieites, in collaboration wit the Qatar Satellite Channel, have announced plans for a relief campaign for the sake of peoples affected by famine and drought in the Horn of Africa.
Director General of Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) Ayed bin Dbassan Al Qahtani said the charity drive will be launched at 10pm Thursday till after midnight with representatives of charities, preachers and senior officials attending.
Addressing a media conference here Tuesday, Al Qahtani said the aforesaid charity drive is part of Qatar's support to the peoples in Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya who are affected by the severe drought in the region.
The campaign on the theme '' Qatar's Generosity Day" falls within Qatar's official and popular support to raising funds for the drought and famine- stricken peoples in the Horn of Africa . The campaign will be held at various shopping malls as well the Katara culture village and officials of charities will be in attendance.
The campaign to collect donations will continue beyond Eid Al-Fitr, he said and urged corporate companies, banks and financial institutions as well citizens to donate generously for the millions of people affected in countries around the Horn of Africa.
Meanwhile Sheikh Eid Charity General Manager Ali Al-Suwaidi said the campaign supports the efforts of the national charities which have been helping since famine struck, as well as before the calamity in countries like Somalia where work has been going on for years.
He added, the campaign will enhance the ongoing relief work in these countries and help reach new areas affected by the famine and help the displaced people with food, clothes, medicines and lodging.
