PRESIDENTS HOLD NEGOTIATIONS

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ On Monday, August 22, the Presidents of Mongolia and the Republic of Korea held negotiations. At the beginning the negotiations, the State Heads have confirmed that this visit would be a historic one, upgrading the bilateral relations into a new level.
Although the bilateral ties between the countries have the history of over 20 years, friendly relations were established between the people of the two countries and the bilateral ties and cooperation have been intensively developing thanks to great efforts in economic, trade, cultural, educational, humanitarian, and health sectors based on the principles of 'Friendship and Cooperation Partnership of Good Neighbors', the Heads of State noted. They added it is important to develop the bilateral relations and cooperation in the fields of infrastructure, energy and agriculture.
The trust and closeness of the people of the two countries have very much increased in recent years. In light of the rise for the mutual visits and studies in the two countries, the two parties accepted that it is required to lessen the burdens for mutual visits, increase air traffic, and simplify visa application rules, and the two sides discussed about creating joint program on the above matter. Furthermore, the two parties exchanged suggestions on specializing Mongolians those work in the Republic of Korea and the possibilities of them to work in their professions in the Republic of Korea.
The people of Mongolia appreciate the low interest loan and aid of the Republic of Korea to Mongolia for stabilizing our economic development. This time the Government of the Republic of Korea is going to give low interest loan of USD 300 million. With this loan National Diagnosis and Treatment Medical Center will be established, and within the regional cooperation framework it is proper to make the center an ideal example of the bilateral cooperation, as the two parties mutually agreed during the talks.
The Mongolian Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy and the Republic of Korea's Ministry of Knowledge Economy established Memorandum of Understanding and the two sides agreed to cooperate to establishing a factory to deep process coal based on Baganuur mine to reduce air pollution in Ulaanbaatar City and the Mongolian side requested support for the urgent implementation of this project.
“Mongolia is interested in producing value added products rather than exporting raw materials. For this we need good technologies and we are interested in cooperating with you in this direction. We have possibilities to cooperate in the fields of urban planning, health, agriculture, environment and investment. We ask Korean investors to focus on those fields,” Ts. Elbegdorj said.
The Korean President Lee said that investments in urgent and prospective sectors; and government projects and programs for giving aids and low interest loans will continue. The two Presidents also exchanged views on cooperating in the field of protecting environment and reducing air pollution.
The sides exchanged views on cooperation on regional and international platforms. Mongolia is chairing the Community of Democracies and President Elbegdorj expressed his appreciation for the support of President Lee for President Elbegdorj's initiation in this direction.
