Thai labor committee demands wage increase in six months
BANGKOK, August 23 (TNA) - President of the Thai Labor Solidarity Committee (TLSC), Charlie Loysoong says the TLSC will give the government six months to implement the 300 baht per day minimum wage and, for bachelor degree holders, the 15,000 baht per month minimum salary. He warns if the government fails to implement these policies within six months, the TLSC will stage a protest.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Charlie said the TLSC would also ask the government to keep prices of consumer goods under control, as prices of some consumer goods already rose, while wages were still unchanged.
Charlie also said he disagreed with the Federation of Thai Industries’ plan to alleviate the impact of the minimum wage hike on employers by reducing their required payment to the Social Security Office from 5 percent to 3 percent, saying it would burden employees and was possibly against Social Security laws.
Instead, he suggested the Ministry of Labor use other measures such as giving tax breaks to employers who train their workers. (TNA)
