New Thai PM delivers policy statement to Parliament

BANGKOK, August 23 (TNA) - A joint parliamentary session of Thai lawmakers of both the Lower and the Upper Houses convened Tuesday morning for the new government's policy presentation and open debate.
Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra was delivering her new Pheu Thai Party-led administration's policy statement before the joint parliamentary sitting, covering urgent policies to be implemented within one year, as well as national security, international relations, economic, social and welfare, natural resources and environment, science and technology and good governance policies.
The first female Thai premier told reporters before the joint parliamentary convention that all vote campaign promises have been included in the government's policy statement and her Pheu Thai Party-led coalition administration will start working fully for the public and the nation after the policy presentation to the Parliament.
Hundreds of police have been deployed at and around the Parliament compound to ensure law and order, as civic groups, including some 200 pro-government red-shirt people, were rallying in front of the Parliament building. (TNA)
