PRESIDENTS OF MONGOLIA AND S.KOREA MEET
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ Paying a state visit to Mongolia, the President of the Republic of Korea Lee Myung-bak met on Monday, August 22 with the State Head Ts.Elbegdorj in the Government House. They shared views on widening the bilateral relations and cooperation.
The State Head Ts.Elbegdorj thanked his counterpart for visiting Mongolia, and expressed his confidence that the visit would strengthen the mutual understanding between Mongolian and Korean people and would bring the bilateral relations into a new level. In his speech, Ts.Elbegdorj expressed his condolences over deaths of many people due to floods occurred in the South Korea.
Mentioning that the 20th anniversary of the Mongolia-Korea diplomatic relations marked last year, the Ts.Elbegdorj underlined that the Mongolians consider the Republic of Korea as its one of the Third neighbors and as a close partner in the region. He also hoped that the sides would discuss many specific issues on expanding the relations.
In his turn, Mr. Lee Myung-bak expressed gratitude to Ts.Elbegdorj for a warm audience, and said he believed this visit would upgrade the bilateral relations into a new step. He pointed out that the Republic of Korea has an aspiration to develop the long-term relations and cooperation with Mongolia. Mr. Lee mentioned about his meeting held with the Mongolian President during the UN General Session of 2009, and then expressed his satisfaction with the realization of some matters considered between the sides. “We have special relations in the fields of economics, health, education, culture and humanitarian, and we appreciate a close understanding between people of our countries,” Mr. Lee said, adding that it is effective to constantly organize business meetings apart of regularizing high-level visits.
The President Ts.Elbegdorj affirmed an importance to strengthen the mutual understanding between Mongolian and Korean people, and underlined that the Mongolian people studying and living in the South Korea have been significantly contributing to the inter-citizenship ties.
“I know that Mongolia transmitted into the democratic and free economic system from the socialist system in peaceful ways. I want to say it is a good example to other countries for democracy. I think that my country has to help Mongolia to put mineral resources into economic circulation. We are ready to share experiences,” Mr. Lee stressed.
Moreover, the South Korean President appreciated the Initiative of Asian Partnership for Democracy that was created by Ts.Elbegdorj, with a purpose to strengthen democracy in Asia in conjunction with the presidency of the Community of Democracies taken to Mongolia. The Presidents exchanged views on developing the collaboration within this initiative.
At the meeting, the State Heads discussed issues on the green development, environment and climate change, and shared views on regional and international issues.
