Thai naval ships protect cargo vessel from Somali pirates

BANGKOK, August 22 (TNA) - Two Thai naval ships, which are currently carrying out an anti-piracy mission in the Gulf of Aden off Somalia, have successfully protected a Thai cargo vessel from being hijacked and are escorting it to its destination.

According to Thai naval officers, the Thai-flagged ship “Thor Harmony” was travelling near the Gulf of Aden where the “Marshall Island” vessel had been hijacked last Saturday.

The officers said HTMS Similan and HTMS Narathiwat spotted the Thor Harmony on the sea at 12:00pm local time and advised it to steer towards the HTMS Similan at its full speed to gain protection.

The Thai-flagged cargo vessel was now being escorted on its way to Jordan. (TNA)
