Thai canned fish industry to see more sales until 2012
BANGKOK, August 22 (TNA) - Chief Executive Officer of Kuang Pai San Food Products Public Company Limited Salin Tohtubtiang says he expects canned fish sales to continue rising until next year.
Salin made the prediction on Monday, citing a rise in canned fish sales by 10 to 15 percent in the past two years, with eighty percent of sales coming from the domestic market, while twenty percent from exports to Asian markets including China, Japan and South Korea. He also said canned fish sales rose by five folds during flood crises in the past two years.
Regarding the new government’s 300-baht a day minimum wage policy, Salin said he believes the policy would increase consumers’ purchasing power and boost the domestic economy. He admitted however, his company would have to seek ways to reduce costs to cope with the wage hike, adding that the canned-fish industry was facing severe labor shortage at the moment. (TNA)
