Thai DPM vows to bring about national peace

BANGKOK, August 22 (TNA) - A newly-appointed Thai Deputy Prime Minister, Police General Kowit Wattana, who has been assigned by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to oversee national security affairs, vowed Monday to try all possible means to bring about national peace.
Police General Kowit promised to perform the best of his ability based on the legal framework and called on local people, including those in the far South, to cooperate with the new Pheu Thai Party-led government to ensure national peace.
However, Police General Kowit, who is a former deputy national police chief tasked with security affairs in the troubled deep South, expressed his concerns over persistent insurgency in the country's southern border region with continual violent attacks, saying that he will heed opinions of all parties, including those of local security officers, when solving the southernmost unrest.
Regarding the new Thai government's scheduled policy presentation to the Parliament on Sunday, the deputy premier declared his readiness to clarify all points questioned by lawmakers of the country's both Lower and Upper Houses and to deal with planned rallies of civic groups in front of the Thai Parliament building.
