Flood situations worsen in Thai North
BANGKOK, August 21 (TNA) - Flooding crisis has continued in Thai North while flooding situation in the country central province of Ang Thong has extended to wider areas as the water level of Chao Phraya River keeps rising.
In Chiang Rai Province, flood situation in Mae Chan District remains critical with many areas still submerged under the two-meters-deep floodwater. Rains still continue to fall there, raising the water level of Kham River by as much as 80 centimeters above its critical level.
In Lamphun Province, the overflowing Kuang River has inundated Muang Lamphun and nearby Ban Thi Districts, making a road that links the two districts impassable.
In Phichit Province, local flood situation is worsening as floodwaters from the upstream provinces of Sukhothai, Phitsanulok and Phetchabun continue arriving. Four more districts have been affected by the flood.
In Phitsanulok province, local people are told to monitor the level of the Nan River closely as it has risen up to over 10 meters deep. Water-pumps have been installed in the heart of the province to drain the floodwater. Workers from Muang Phitsanulok Municipality have also blocked street-drains with sandbags to prevent floodwaters from the Nan River entering the province’s commercial areas.
In the Central Plain, the Chao Phraya River is rising and overflowing its banks, flooding extended areas of Ang Thong and Sing Buri Provinces. Many local farmers have been forced to abandon their paddy fields and move their belongings to dry grounds. (TNA)
