Court refuses bail for red shirt protest leaders charged with lese majeste
BANGKOK, August 20 (TNA) - Thailand's Criminal Court on Friday refused to grant bail to two red shirt protest leaders, Surachai Danwatananusorn and Somyos Prueksakasemsuk, who were charged with offending the royal institution.
The Court pointed out that Surachai was charged with many other offences against the royal institution, while Somyos did not come up with a valid reason for his temporary release.
The Court also forwarded to the Appeal Court bail requests from six other red shirt protesters who were charged with violating a protest ban, and illegally using and carrying weapons and communication radios.
In addition, the Criminal Court released on bail Tawatchai Iemnak who was charged with illegal possession of explosives. The court initially set his bail bond at 300,000 baht, but later released him on the condition of his MP status.
On Friday, relatives of red shirt demonstrators killed on May 19, 2010 rallied in front of the CentralWorld shopping center near Ratchaprasong intersection in Bangkok to remember the death. (TNA)
