Kazakhstan, Astana, Aug.19 / Trend, A. Maratov /
Voting for MPs election to the upper chamber of the Kazakh Parliament ended in all regions, votes are being counted, Kazakh CEC member Tatyana Okhlopkova said.
"As of 12:30 Astana time, the overall voter turnout hit 96.6 percent, voting in all regions, is almost finished, and vote counting is underway at the polling stations," Okhlopkova said at a briefing.
Preliminary voting results will be announced on Friday evening.
"Violation of election law is not recorded, both the electoral commissions and other authorities did not receive calls and complaints from participants of the electoral process, citizens and organizations," Okhlopkova said.
Earlier the Deputy Chairman of the Kazakh Central Election Commission Vladimir Foos reported about lack of violation in voting process and participants’ complaints.
According to preliminary data, at present 371 registered observers monitor the elections. They include 52 international observers, 29 observers from political parties, 37 - from NGOs, 33 authorized representatives of candidates and 220 representatives of local and foreign media outlets.
Kazakhstan uses mixed methods for electing senators: 15 senators were appointed by the president, and 32 were elected by secret ballots.
Kazakh citizens who are deputies of the maslikhats (local representative bodies) elect the representatives to the Senate.
The election is regarded as legitimate as long as the majority (over 50 percent) of elected deputies representing all Astana and Almati maslikhats attended the elections.
Some 14 out of 39 registered candidates are nominated by maslikhats and 25 candidates being self-nominated. The registered candidates were devoid of women.
