Awqaf Minister Attends Egypt's 19th International Holy Quran Contest

Cairo, August 18 (QNA) - HE Qatar's Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Dr. Ghaith bin Mubarak Al Kuwari and the accompanying delegation on Thursday met here separately with al-Azhar Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed al-Tayeb and Dr. Ali Gomaa, the Grand Mufti of Egypt.
The meetings, which came on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony of Egypt's 19th International Holy Quran Contest, dealt with bilateral ties and issues of mutual concern.
Dr. Al Kuwari also met with a number of Qatari students on scholarships offered by the Ministry.
Dr Ahmed Al-Tayeb Al-Azhar Sheikh Azhar al-Sharif and Egyptian Minister of Religious Endowments Mohamed Abdel-Fadil Elkoussy have opened the contest.
Qatar is represented at this competition by Anas Hashim al-Mashhadani for recitation of twenty consecutive parts and Abdul Aziz al Hamri for the category of recitation of the entire Holy Quran.
The international contest, which is held annually every Ramadan, is co-organized by the Egyptian Ministry of Awqaf and Al-Azhar Mosque and University. It runs until the 27 of Ramadan
More than 100 contestants from 65 countries compete in five main categories, including memorization, recitation and Tafseer (explanation) of the Holy Quran. (QNA)
