Brisbane airport protests 'every Monday'
SYDNEY (AAP) - A pay dispute involving cleaners and security guards at Brisbane Airport is set to escalate with the union planning to take action every Monday morning.
A convoy of vehicles, including a caravan and a trailer with a port-a-loo, are doing laps of the domestic and international airport on Thursday morning, disrupting traffic flow during the peak period.
It's the second week running the United Voice union, which covers cleaners and security guards, has used a convoy to slow traffic at the terminals.
Workers are protesting over their $16.50 per hour wage and job security, says union spokesman Damien Davie.
"There's just under 50 cars driving around Airport Drive," Mr Davie told AAP on Thursday.
"If we don't get a reaction it will ... only escalate and go to busier times and more cars being involved."
The likely time to be targeted was Monday mornings.
Friday morning may also be a bad time at the airport, with quarantine staff nationwide to walk off the job for four hours over stalled pay negotiations.
Mr Davie said there had been "no willingness" from contractors or Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) to discuss their claims.
BAC is being sought for comment.
