Thailand’s auto sales, production increase in July

BANGKOK, August 18 (TNA) - The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) has revealed Thailand’s automotive production and sales increased in July as automakers resumed their full production capacities.
Surapong Paisitpatanapong, spokesman of the FTI’s Automotive Industry Club, said on Thursday that auto sales in Thailand rose 3.76 percent over month, and 11 percent from a year earlier, with the total sales recorded at 72,900 vehicles.
He reasoned the sales growth to the healthy national economy and the fact that auto manufacturers had recovered from a slowdown in production caused by parts shortages after the March 11 disasters in Japan.
Over 147,000 vehicles were produced in July, increasing by 1 percent year on year but dropping by 4.17 percent from previous month.
According to the Federation of Thai Industries, some 957,800 vehicles were produced in Thailand in the first seven months of this year, rising by 4.71 percent from the same period last year. The FTI expected about 510,000 vehicles to be produced in the August-October period, or an increment of some 17 percent over the same period last year. (TNA)
