Seoul shares down 1.43 pct in late-morning trade
SEOUL, Aug. 18 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks traded 1.43 percent lower late Thursday morning as foreigners and institutions offloaded shares, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) fell 27.05 points to 1,865.62 as of 11:20 a.m.
Retail investors scooped up shares but foreigners and institutions continued their selling spree.
Exporters lost ground across the board, with Samsung Electronics, the world's second-largest mobile phone maker, falling 4.52 percent and leading automaker Hyundai Motor losing 3.99 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,072.05 won to the greenback as of 11:20 a.m., down 0.55 won from Wednesday's close.
