Qatar Statistics Authority Releases Annual Culture & Tourism Report
Doha , August 17 (QNA) - The Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) released on Tuesday its annual report on statistics of Information and Culture and Tourism 2010, which is considered one of the most important statistics provided by the authority for researchers and specialists in that field.
The report includes the most important data on the statistics of media, culture and tourism. It covers a number of media forms such as radio, television, cinema, libraries, newspapers, magazines, theaters, museums, hotels, mosques and other data related to the zoo and the Social Development Center.
With regard to statistics on hotels, the report showed that the percentage of hotel guests rose to 12 percent in 2010 compared to 2009. GCC hotel guests represents 31% of the total number of guests.
The report noted that the months March, October, November, December were the most active months of the hotels while the months January and August were the slowest during the year.
In terms of the nationalities of the hotel guests, Qatari nationals came in first place with 348,000 guests in 2010. Saudi nationals came in second place in terms of GCC with 100,000 guests.
The number of guests with business visas were 333,000 while those with a tourism visa was 320,000.
The report said the number of cinemas has risen from 25 in 2009 to 38 houses in 2010. The number of movie goers reached 1.53 million people in 2010, an increase of 165,000 from the previous year.
The number of daily newspapers was seven, in addition to a total of seven magazines including the monthly and weekly. The percentage of Qatari nationals working in the press was 4% of the total staff.
