Flooding still serious in Thai North, Northeast
NAN, August 17 (TNA) - Critical flooding has continued to overwhelm many parts of Thailand’s North and Northeast.
In the northern province of Nan, the Nan River overflowed its banks and inundated vast areas of farmland. Powerful flood currents also punctured river banks, pushing water on to roads in many locations.
The flood situation in the Yom river basin had extended to a wider area after sustaining run-offs from upstream. In Sam Ngam district, nearly 1,000 households in twelve villages were submerged in over two-meter deep floodwaters.
In Sukhothai province, the provincial governor and officials travelled on boats to hand out necessities to over 200 flood-impacted families in Ban Wang Thong village in Sri Samrong district.
In the northeastern province of Nakhon Phanom, floods were receding after rains letup; the water level of the Mekong River was also subsiding.
Meanwhile, in Udon Thani province, three schools were forced to temporarily close due to flooding caused by heavy rain on Tuesday night. (TNA)
