Thailand’s approved investment projects likely to reach Bt400bn in 2011
BANGKOK, August 17 (TNA) - Thailand's new investment projects approved by the Board of Investment (BOI), through its promotional programs, are likely to reach some 400 billion baht in 2011 as targeted, despite a slowdown in the US and the European economies.
BOI Secretary General Atchaka Sribunruang Brimble dismissed serious impacts on Thailand's investment prospect from the ongoing financial crisis in the United States and Europe, noting that most of investment projects in Thailand have been run by entrepreneurs from growing Asian nations.
According to the BOI chief, new investment projects applying for the BOI's promotional privileges during the first seven months of 2011 have already reached some 300 billion baht.
The BOI secretary general, meanwhile, particularly acknowledged rising value of trade and investment from Taiwan in Thailand during the first half of this year, saying that Taiwanese investors have also asked the Thai government for a visa waiver and have called for both the Taiwanese and the Thai governments to avoid double taxation to further boost two-way trade and investment.
