Sizeable donations reach 1,000 rescued dogs

BANGKOK, August 17 (TNA) - Substantial donation has been raised for at least 1,000 dogs rescued by police in Nakhon Phanom Province, before they were brought across the border to be sold in Vietnam.

Police said on Wednesday the dogs were now under close monitoring by Thai livestock officials at the Nakhon Phanom Animal Quarantine Station, although with many still suffering from wounds. Some had reportedly died even before the police raid.

The quarantine station had been issuing a public statement calling for donations of food and cash to help cater for the animals.

Authorities of Nakhon Phanom Province had also opened a bank account for donations, which so far raised more than 2 million baht in sum. Members of the public were also encouraged to establish contact with authorities concerned to possibly identify their lost pets. (TNA)
