New Thai Cabinet to heed royal advice

BANGKOK, August 17 (TNA) - Thailand's first female Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has called on her Cabinet to heed royal advice given by Her Majesty Queen Sirikit last Thursday, at a public audience on the occasion of Her Majesty's 79th birthday on August 12.

Speaking to reporters after Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting, Cabinet Secretary General Ampon Kittiampon quoted Prime Minister Yingluck’s direction to her Cabinet on six issues to be expedited as advised by Her Majesty the Queen.

They include assisting flood victims, promoting royally-initiated projects, preserving and conserving Thai culture, especially “Khon”, a traditional Thai performance, eradicating narcotics, resolving unrest in the country's far South and supporting the construction of a Buddha image, named Phra Buddha Metta Pracha Thai Trai Lokanat Kantarat Anusorn, to be installed at the Sukhontaram Temple in the western Thai Kanchanaburi Province in honour of Their Majesties the King and Queen, on their 84th birthday and 79th birthday on December 5, 2011 and August 12, 2012 respectively.

Meanwhile, new Deputy Prime Minister Police General Kowit Wattana said that he has been assigned by Premier Yingluck to arrange for grand celebrations nationwide on the auspicious occasion of the beloved Thai monarch’s 84th birthday and for the royal cremation of late Her Royal Highness Princess Bejaratana, immediately after the new Pheu Thai government’s policy statement is presented to the Thai Parliament.
