Southern rail services resume after derailment

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, August 16 (TNA) - Rail services on Thailand’s southern routes resumed on Tuesday, after a suspension overnight caused by a derailment of a train carriage in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province's Cha-Uad District.

Locomotive Inspector of Tung Song Junction Railway Station Nithep Wongwisetkan told reporters that local rail authorities have successfully recovered the derailed carriage and completed track maintenance work since this early Tuesday morning, and that the incident resulted from a damaged section on the rail track.

Nithep said that the No. 452 train derailed at around 11pm Monday night when it was en route to Nakhon Si Thammarat Station from Su Ngai Kolok, shortly after its departure from the Cha-Uad Station.

The senior rail official noted, however, that the derailed carriage did not overturn and there were no reports of injuries initially, but the derailment caused the temporary suspension of at least six other trains from Phattalung through to Narathiwat Provinces. (TNA)
