Thai students clinch six championships from Int'l Robotic Olympiad

BANGKOK, August 16 (TNA) - Thai students have captured six championships from the China Liuzhou International Robotic Olympiad 2011, with some of them amazing judges with unrivalled hand generator robots.

Shinapatr Phumrat, Secretary-General of the Thai Ministry of Education's Basic Education Commission, told reporters on Tuesday that 35 teams of Thai students have participated in the China Liuzhou International Robotic Olympiad 2011 in Liuzhou city of Guangxi Province, scheduled for August 12-17 and they have captured 23 awards, including six championships in the primary and secondary school-level competitions.

Shinapatr said that the championships consisted of two titles in the primary-school competition, including the hand generator 2 legs robot short distance run title and the hand generator robot tug-of-war title of Chumphuang Witthaya School in Thailand's northeastern Nakhon Ratchasima Province; while the other four championships came from the secondary school-level competition, in which the team of Baan In Plaeng School in the northeastern Thai Sakon Nakhon Province took two titles from the hand generator 2 legs robot short distance run competition and the hand generator triathlon robot relay competition, the team from Triam udom Suksa Pattanakarn Nonthaburi School won the hand generator robot tug-of-war title and the Nonsungsritani School took the hand generator planet exploration title.

The senior Thai official revealed that the other participating Thai students also won five first runner-up, nine second runner-up three third runner-up awards from the China Liuzhou International Robotic Olympiad 2011, which have drawn 660 students in 250 teams from Hong Kong, Macau, Shanghai, Guilin and Thailand, and that the Thai students are in the second place after Shanghai students who capture as many as 29 championships.

According to the senior Thai official, judges appeared to be impressed with the Thai students of Baan In Plaeng School and Chumphuang Witthaya School for their best hand generator robots, promising that his Basic Education Commission will continue to support the development of robotic skills and talents among Thai students.
