Former Thai PM meets US senator
BANGKOK, August 16 (TNA) - New US ambassador to Thailand Kristie Kenney led US Senator Jim Webb, who is also the chairman of the US Senate’s Relations Subcommittee on East Asian and Pacific Affairs, to meet former Thai prime minister and acting Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva at the Democrat Party's headquarter in Bangkok on Tuesday.
After the meeting, the visiting US senator told reporters that he praised Abhisit and his previous government for ensuring Thailand's smooth general election on July 3 and for saving the Kingdom from crises, especially a domestic political turmoil last year.
According to the US senator, the latest national poll in Thailand has brought the Kingdom back to democracy and made it a most secured country in the region. (TNA)
