Spirit of Sharing and Gaiety Marks Garangao Celebrations
Doha, August 15 (QNA) Sharing, bonding, kinship and gaiety among children as well as adults marked Garangao celebrations in different localities of Qatar.
Garangao, celebrated on the 14th night during the Holy month of Ramadan, is special to the Gulf region, particularly Qatar. It is said to have its roots in the pearl-diving tradition of the region.
During the traditional Arab festival of Garangao joyous groups of children visit homes in their neighbourhood, singing songs to receive and share goodies like nuts, chocolates and candies.
This year too this Garangao was observed by a large number of people, privately as well as by corporate groups in various localities of Doha.
Ras Laffan Industrial City Community Outreach Programme (RLC COP) celebrated Garangao, its first cultural event with the local communities of northern Qatar in the Al Khor based COP office.
This children's festival gave a good platform to the Community Outreach Programme which is an initiative to create a more respectful, trust-based partnership between companies based in Ras Laffan Industrial City and local communities.
The celebration marks the beginning of building awareness among the local community about the COP's objectives.
Over the years, the festival has gained more popularity. The members of the RLC COP office entertained around 300 children clad in their traditional clothes and arranged a variety of cultural events to mark the occasion.
'Sharing the spirit of Garangao' was the theme of the event which emphasized the importance of sharing and generosity. The organizing committee presented children with bags of sweets. The children also sang traditional Garangao songs and participated in various fun activities related to the theme. (QNA)
