M'SIAN POLICE REMIND PUBLIC NOT TO SPECULATE OR SPREAD RUMOURS
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 (Bernama) -- The police Thursday reminded the public not to speculate or spread rumours that can harm the peace and tranquility of the country.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar said such actions
were irresponsible and cause people to be restless and worried.
"Such actions have been done through various media like web-sites, blogs
and through Short Message Service (SMS) and others.
"Announcements that a change of ruling power has happened and also of
uproar in certain places, this can jeopardise the peace and security of the
country," he said at a news conference after handing out Hari Raya parcels to
senior police officers at Bukit Aman here.
Ismail called on everyone to cooperate with the police to maintain the
country's peace and harmony and avoid causing tension through speculation and
rumours.
He also gave assurance that the situation in the country was under control
and said people could go about their daily activities without worry.
"The country's security is stable. We will monitor the situation to ensure
no laws are broken," Ismail said.
He reminded the public to report to the police if they receive rumours that
can disturb the country's peace.
At the function today, 5,388 parcels of Hari Raya goodies were handed over
to senior officers of each department for distribution to policemen serving
during the Hari Raya period.
