CPNE urges federal, provincial governments to provide monetary aid to slain journalist’s heirs
Karachi, August 15, 2011 (PPI): Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of Khuzdar based journalist Muneer Ahmed Shakir and has urged the federal and provincial governments to provide monetary aid to slain journalist’s heirs.
In a press release issued Monday, President CPNE Jameel Athar Qazi, Senior Vice President CPNE Qazi Asad Abid and others have extended their sympathies to the deceased person’s family and all the journalists of Balochistan.
Shakir who was associated with a news agency and private TV channels was on his way home from Khuzdar Press Club when unidentified culprits opened fire on him. Resultantly he received severe injuries and was taken to the hospital where he died. This is the third such incident when a journalist of Khuzdar Press Club was targeted and killed. Prior to this incident, two other journalists Faiz Sasoli and Muhammed Khan Sasoli were also killed by unknown armed men.
The CPNE has demanded of the Balochistan government to take the culprits to task and ensure security to the media practitioners.
