Efforts in full swing to elevate Sindh Madressatul Islam to university status


Karachi, August 15, 2011 (PPI): Muhammad Siddique Memon, Secretary Education Sindh, has said the provincial Education Department and the Sindh government is fully committed to elevate the status of Sindh Madressatul Islam (SMI) to the university level as this alma mater of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah deserves such status.

He said this while addressing the faculty, staff members and students of SMI College at Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Auditorium during his visit to the institution on Monday.

Memon said SMI is a premier institution of the province and the provincial government is keenly interested in restoring its past glory.

Laying emphasis on modern education, the provincial education secretary said the students must devote themselves in acquiring modern education, because they have to lead the country in future.

Earlier Dr. Muhammad Ali Shaikh, Principal of SMIC, in his welcome address said after devolution of the federal education ministry under the 18th amendment, lot of problems were faced by the SMI but all these problems including the budget allocation, extension of 35 contractual employees and nomination of DDO, have been resolved with the personal interest and efforts of Sindh Chief Minister, Sindh Education Minister, Education Secretary Sindh, Additional Secretary, Special Education and other related functionaries of the provincial government. “The secretary education has assured us that all the remaining problems of the SMIC will be resolved on priority basis,” the SMIC principal concluded.

On the occasion Memon visited Jinnah Museum, Fine Arts Gallery and other sections of the institution. Dr. Shaikh also gave presentation to the secretary on the past, present and future of SMI. Waseem Ahmed Ursani, Additional Secretary for Special Education, was also present.
